NEWS - Nick Mason's Ferrari at Cadwell Park

THE sound of thunder boomed around Cadwell Park racetrack when Ferrari fan and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason got into top gear. His Ferrari 512 – worth a cool £1.5-million – tore round the track at up to 150mph, powered by its 600bhp engine. It was a welcome return to Cadwell for motor sport racer Nick, who flew to Lincolnshire in his custom-painted Squirrel helicopter from London.

His treasured Ferrari was used in the Steve McQueen movie Le Mans in a crash scene, and also driven by legendary racing drivers Mario Andretti, Ronnie Peterson and Arturo Merzario. Its wreckage was lovingly restored thanks to Nick (65).

The car – which has 12 cylinders and is capable of 200mph – was driven around Cadwell by motoring journalist and racing driver Mark Hales to take part in a comparison test drive with a £2.4-million Porsche 917, owned by former racing driver David Piper.

Nick said: “I have raced with the Vintage Sports Car Club, which comes here regularly. I raced a Bugatti.

“It is a great circuit and it’s so nice to see the infrastructure looked after so well.

“The car is a fairly fierce bit of kit and was made for 1,000km races such as Le Mans.

“With a small wing at the back, it is particularly exciting to drive.”

NEWS - David Gilmour's Track on McKinnon CD

David Gilmour's song, along with other undisclosed songs, will be released on a CD next month to raise awareness for Gary McKinnon who is fighting extradition to the USA. An extradition request has been filed by the US Government after McKinnon hacked into the US Military's computer network.

McKinnon's mother said, "We've known Joe, Dave Gilmour's brother-in-law, since Gary was a child and Joe knows Gary is a good person," she writes. "Joe told David Gilmour and his sister Polly (Polly is David Gilmour's wife) and Dave immediately offered and emailed me to say he is happy to sing on our 'Sing In' recording/cd for Gary.".

NEWS - Pink Floyd processa a própria gravadora por falta de pagamento

Banda diz que EMI está 'errando no cálculo' do pagamento de royalties. Catálogo do grupo só vendeu menos que o dos Beatles nos últimos 25 anos.

Segundo o jornal britânico “The Guardian”, o Pink Floyd está processando a EMI, gravadora da qual a banda é contratada desde 1967, por considerar que a empresa está “errando nos cálculos” dos royalties devidos ao grupo.

O processo inédito mostra que a relação entre o selo e a banda pode estar abalada. A aquisição da EMI pela empresa Terra Firma pode ser responsável pelos problemas recentes com o Pink Floyd. Artistas como Paul McCartney e Radiohead deixaram a gravadora após a entrada da Terra Firma, que comprou a EMI por 4 bilhões de libras (quase R$ 13 bilhões).

A banda é um dos artistas mais lucrativos da gravadora: seu catálogo só vendeu menos que o dos Beatles nos últimos 25 anos. Entre seus álbuns mais famosos está “The dark side of the Moon”, um dos discos mais vendidos de todos os tempos.

NEWS - Nick Mason's Pink Motorbike up for Sale!

The Honda VF500FII E was first imported in March 1984 and was in fact discontinued just over a year later in April 1985 as it failed to establish much of a following. This particular bike was registered mid-way through its run in August. The bike was billed as a sports middleweight, but the 498cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine was in reality a larger version of the VF400F that had appeared here a year earlier. The motor was placed in a new chassis using square section tubing rolling along on a 16-inch front and 18-inch rear Comstar wheels. The braced front forks were air-assisted as was the rear Pro-link suspension.

The bike was originally offered in a red or blue colour scheme, but this particular machine was painted in a pink colour scheme by its second owner Nick Mason, drummer with the iconic band Pink Floyd who bought it in 1987. Although best known for his love of classic racing cars, he has always had a motorcycle or two for transport in and around the capital where both his home and business interest are located. In his ownership for nine years before being sold to the vendor the bike shows a mileage of 12,000 which is believed to be genuine.

The bike comes with documentation to support its provenance and in full running condition with a current MOT .

Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500 Cheffins to auction on 25th April 2009.

NEWS - Guitarrista do Pink Floyd grava música em apoio a hacker

O guitarrista do grupo inglês Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, participará de um protesto em Londres nesta quinta-feira contra a extradição do hacker Gary McKinnon para os Estados Unidos. McKinnon, atualmente no Reino Unido, é acusado de uma das maiores invasões ao sistema militar americano.

McKinnon foi preso em 2002 no Reino Unido, depois de invadir 97 computadores do governo americano e tentar entrar em outros 73 mil, segundo o site ComputerWeekly, causando um um prejuízo de quase US$ 500 mil. Em 2005, os Estados Unidos pediram sua extradição. O hacker confessou a invasão e alegou ter encontrado informações que comprovariam a existência de extraterrestres. A defesa de McKinnon alega que ele sofre da Síndrome de Asperger, uma forma funcional de autismo.

O protesto acontece nesta quinta-feira, 2 de abril, Dia Mundial do Autismo, e coincide com a presença em Londres do presidente dos Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, para o encontro do G20.

O músico David Gilmour gravou a música "Chicago", de Graham Nash, que será tocada durante a manifestação, mas não poderá comparecer pessoalmente, de acordo com o jornal britânico The Register.

Janis Sharp, mãe do hacker, está organizando o protesto e reescreveu a letra da música com permissão de Nash, que ficou famoso por participar do grupo Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Gilmour pode ter aderido à causa por se sensibilizar com a situação do hacker, uma vez que já apoiou outras causas relacionadas à saúde mental. Em um e-mail enviado à mãe de McKinnon, segundo o Register, o guitarrista diz que "concorda que seu filho Gary não deva ser extraditado aos Estados Unidos por essa ingênua invasão. É difícil aceitar que nosso sistema judiciário seja tão falho que não possa evitar isso".

Outro músico que apóia a causa de McKinnon é Sting, junto com sua mulher Trudie Styler.

O Register noticiou que também há planos de juntar vários artistas em uma gravação da música "Only a Fool", escrita pelo próprio hacker, com renda destinada a instituições de apoio ao autismo. Outra música composta por McKinnon pode ser vista no YouTube, pelo atalho tinyurl.com/c4b3hj.
